Where to Park at Pensthorpe Wildlife & Gardens
The reserve offers a large car park with plenty of space and even an overflow car park, which is very convenient should things get a little busy. Thankfully, you won’t have to look very hard to find it, as the only road leading up to the gardens finishes in the car park itself and with plenty of space to choose from, parking your car will be nice and easy even for larger vehicles.
Pensthorpe Wildlife & Gardens Walks
If you love walking then you won’t be disappointed when you arrive, as the reserve offers many fantastic trails to follow, which will lead you through the beautiful gardens, around the lakes and through woodland. Make sure that you keep a sharp eye, as the areas are teaming with wildlife including numerous species of birds and insects!
At the southeast end of the reserve is where you will find Wildflower Meadow. This beautiful area boasts a fine selection of wildflowers and orchids during the summer and when summer turns into autumn, you will get the chance to see the rare Norfolk Long Horn Sheep that graze in the meadow when the flowers are gone for the colder seasons. For the best views of the meadow, take the boardwalk nature trail that leads around the south side of the meadow.
On the north side of the reserve, close to the entrance and hidden under the canopies of Birch & Oak trees is the beautiful Wave Garden. Here you can take a quiet stroll along the garden path while enjoying the beautiful foliage that’s green all year round thanks to the simple planting and thick yew hedges. The walk continues into the Wave Line Garden where you will find circular seating areas that are perfect for taking a break and will give you the chance to properly take in the scenic views. Keep a look out for the two modern sculptures also.
The Millennium Garden really is the star of the show, as it boasts an acre of stunning flowers & other plant life that range in size, shape and colour, giving you an amazingly colourful and enjoyable experience. The wildlife here is just as impressive, so you won’t have to look far to find some fascinating types of insects, birds & small woodland animals.
These garden walks are outstanding and maintain their beauty throughout the year, so even if you visit in the middle of winter, you won’t be disappointed!
What else does Pensthorpe Wildlife & Gardens have to offer?
There’s also plenty to keep the kids entertained including the Tracker Trail where they can collect numerous stamps that are located along the nature trails, with a prize waiting for them once they have found every single one! There is also the Nature Play (with a giant spider) Den Building and the Interactive Bug Walk, so you can rest assured your little ones won’t be short of things to do.
